Here you will find information on the collective effort at the North Wales Wildlife Trust to tackle the threat posed by invasive non-native species (invasive species or INNS). This includes several projects focusing on different approaches and different parts of North Wales and beyond.

The UK’s peatland soils store around 3.2 billion tonnes of carbon, but are heavily degraded and release the equivalent of 23 million tonnes of CO2 every year. Restored peatlands can capture more carbon, reduce flooding, clean our water, and allow wildlife to thrive.

Support Swift Bricks in Wales to protect declining swift populations. Backed by the Wildlife Trusts across Wales and RSPB Cymru, the campaign calls for legislation requiring Swift Bricks in all new buildings. This campaign is scheduled to be debated in the Senedd (Welsh Parliament) on Wednesday 1 October 2025.

The UK has lost up to 90% of its seagrass meadows in the past century, which has had negative consequences for the health and resilience of our coastal systems. In 2019, Swansea University, the charity Project Seagrass and WWF-UK formed a collaboration to begin to restore some of what we have lost. Concurrently, over the last six years Swansea University has been leading trials across Wales to develop appropriate methods for seagrass restoration. Here in North Wales, we've now teamed up with the partnership to start exploring how we can bring this exciting project to North Wales. Funding secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund allows us to deliver a socially agreeable and ecologically sound programme of restoration and we want you to get involved.
