Tucked away right around the city of Bangor are three incredible little pockets of nature: Eithinog, Nantporth, and Llyn Celanedd. You might have driven past them on the way down the coast or spotted them on a map, but few people actually know the rich history and hidden stories behind them. Whether you are a local, a student new to the area, or just logging in from further afield because you love wildlife and conservation, you are so welcome to join. Please note: To ensure this event is accessible to everyone, live British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation will be provided throughout the talk.
We'll be chatting about how these spaces came to be, like the story of how the community rallied together to save Eithinog from development to protect its amazing autumn fungi, or how the ancient woodland at Nant Porth actually grew out of an old limestone quarry overlooking the Menai Strait. We will also talk about Llyn Celanedd, the vital coastal lagoon formerly known as the Spinnies, and the lovely story behind restoring its historic Welsh name.
From the oystercatchers along the shore to the grazing cattle keeping the meadows healthy, it's a brilliant chance to see how nature thrives even right on the edge of a city. It is going to be a really relaxed, informal evening, so come along to learn a bit more about these beautiful spots, find out how to visit them, and get inspired by how a community can keep its local spaces wild.
The event organiser speaks conversational Welsh, please feel free to use Welsh or English during this event.
