Limestone grasslands: A talk and wildflower walk (with cake!)

Ynglŷn â'r digwyddiad
Join us for a special celebration of our precious limestone grassland habitats and the achievements of the Limestone Grassland Community Roots 11-month project.
We’ll begin at Rhyd y Foel Community Centre with tea and cake, giving you the chance to meet the team, connect with fellow community members, and learn more about these remarkable landscapes. We’ll share the story of the project — from tackling invasive cotoneaster to restoring the grassland and hillside, improving conditions for the species-rich seedbank to flourish once more.
At 10:30am, we’ll set off on a guided walk to Pen y Corddyn Bach, one of our most species-rich and beautiful limestone grassland sites. The walk is a 2.4km return journey (though it may be possible to park closer). Expect a short and slight elevation as we reach the grassland, and you’ll be rewarded with stunning 360-degree views and a chance to explore a rare hidden gem in our local landscape. Although the grassland won’t be at its best, we’re paving the path with images of the wildflowers, grasses, and butterflies found within this habitat, that you’ll see around late spring and summer —we’ll also help you spot and identify some of the rare species that thrive only in these special habitats.
Weather permitting, there will be opportunities for bug hunts, a hands-on way to discover the incredible invertebrate life that calls limestone grassland home.
After the walk, we’ll return to the community centre to round off the celebration together, and enjoy more cake!
This project has been funded by Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
