About the event

Join a growing community of friendly young people and help make this a youth movement for change in North East Wales, whilst exploring the wonderful reed bed and woodland at Big Pool Wood Nature Reserve. Get close to the wildlife in the bird hides and make your own natural bird feeder to take home with you!

Open to 16-24 year olds only.

This is one of a series of sessions we are hosting with the aim of bringing together a community of young people in North East Wales interested in climate action, social justice and wildlife. It will be a great opportunity to meet like-minded people of your age who want to take action for nature.

The event organiser speaks Welsh, please feel free to use Welsh or English during this event.

Meeting point: We will meet at the entrance to the reserve by the riding school. Take the small track off the road and come through the gate next to the riding school, there will be a small gate ahead of you at the entrance with the Big Pool Wood sign.

Mobility

The boardwalk and hard surface pathway allow wheelchair access around the reserve and to two of the three bird hides. There are steps to the third hide, called ‘Gills Hide’. Access to the main entrance is through Bridlewood Riding Stables. This route is over a hard surface, but during wet weather mud can accumulate because of the nature of a working horse stable environment. The circular route around the pond is 0.5km.

The nearest toilets are at the Stables Café, Bridlewood Equestrian Centre, Tyn-y-morfa, Gwespyr, Holywell CH8 9JN.

Wheelchair access

Yes

What to bring

Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable footwear such as walking boots or trainers. Bring binoculars if you have them, and a drink of water.
