About the event
Family, friends, and fellow birders are invited to form a team to see how many species of birds they can spot in 24 hours across any of the 35 local nature reserves cared for by North Wales Wildlife Trust.
The NWWT Bird Race is a great opportunity for people of all ages, from beginner or expert bird knowledge, to get outdoors and explore the rich bird-life that can be found in North Wales. How many types of bird can you see? From ospreys at Gors Maen Llwyd, kingfishers at Llyn Celanedd or water rail at Big Pool Wood Nature Reserve.
To enter the bird race you will need to:
- Make a team
- Choose your reserves
- Register via Eventbrite
Teams must have a minimum of 3 people, with no upper limit, but you must stick together for the whole race, so large groups are not recommended.
Then you have a full 24 hours in which to see and record as many different bird species as you can!
Every species recorded helps with providing data, so if you're an expert or a beginner the NWWT bird race is a great way to get involved with surveying and even kick-start (or just re-start) a fun annual tradition.

Dogs
The majority of our reserves allow dogs, but they must be on leads, especially anywhere that has ground nesting bird populations.
Please check the individual reserve pages, and follow their guidance if you intend to bring dogs.
