A tribute to Jean Robertson

A tribute to Jean Robertson

Our staff and volunteers were deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Jean Robertson, a cherished and much-missed member of the Conwy Valley Branch of the North Wales Wildlife Trust. Her contributions, as both a volunteer and friend, will be warmly remembered by all who knew her.

Jean joined the committee of the Trust’s Conwy Valley Branch in the mid-1990s and, after a few years, became Chair. She was then an active and effective leader of the group for the next 15 years, with a brief period as Treasurer just before and for a few years after standing down. She was noted for giving everyone a friendly welcome, whether it be at the indoor talks at Penrhyn Bay or one of the local wildflower walks she led during the summer months. Her great knowledge of plants combined with that of the local area always made these both informative, interesting, and often, tinged with humour.

She was a consummate organiser and made sure that the most important part of the branch Christmas parties was sorted - the food! She had paper plates, cheery tablecloths and lists.  And like magic members turned up with quiches, plates of sandwiches, millionaire’s shortbreads and goodness knows what else!

Penny, our Trading Officer, worked closely with Jean when she was the lead volunteer at our Great Orme shop. Her dedication, hard work, and her willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty shone through. No matter what the weather, she used to make her way up the Orme to ensure it opened and worked efficiently. After Jean retired, visits to her home showed another side of her. Her artifacts from around the world told of her younger years when she travelled, and how much she enjoyed scuba diving.

Jean will be hugely missed, and our thoughts are with her family, of whom she often talked.

There will be a Memorial Service celebrating Jean's life at St. Mary's Church, Conwy on Friday, 15th August at 2:00 p.m.

Thanks to Mark Sheridan, Jill Tattershall and Penny Garnett for their fond reflections of Jean.
