Osprey update 18/07/2020

Its been so good to get back to work properly at Llyn Brenig. The difficulties of this year seemed to flow away as we opened up the trailer and got out the scopes. Whilst the new portacadin gifted to us from the Dyfi Osprey Project isnt quite open to the public yet, due to us wanting to keep social distancing rules, it does provide a nice bit of shelter for us when the wind and rain start up, which it does quite often up at the lake. so whats been happening?

INTRUDER OSPREY AT THE BRENIG NEST

An intruder osprey was seen at the Brenig nest a couple of times yesterday (17/7/20) in the early afternoon. There was a lot of wing flapping from BLUE24 and the chick disappeared into the nest. We did try to identify the intruder osprey but unfortunately the osprey nest camera stopped recording just before the disturbance and came back on just after it was all over. Other Ospreys have also been spotted in the area this year including KS8, a 2yr old female from the Clywedog nest who visited the Brenig nest on 7/6/20.

KC5 WITH A FISH

On a couple of occasions KC5 (chick) has returned to the nest carrying a fish. It would be amazing if she is already catching fish within 4 days of fledging. Roli (KA5), last year’s chick was first seen attempting to fish 3 days after fledging but the first time we watched him bring in fish was 17days after fledging although he may have been catching fish sooner, just out of sight.

We look forward to seeing you at the Lookout and answering any questions you may have. We will be there throughout the season.  Just follow the signs from the visitor centre car park just past the sailing club.
