Wilder Bangor

Explore how we are bridging gaps in the local community

The Wilder Bangor project builds directly on local consultation and is responding to what communities in Bangor have told us they want and need from local nature spaces to better connect with nature.

The project is targeted at global majority ethnic groups (previously known as minority ethnic groups across the UK) and LGBTQ+ communities in Bangor. We aim to increase awareness of local outdoor spaces, support people to feel more confident using them, and create meaningful opportunities for people from different backgrounds to connect with nature and with one another. Alongside this, the project supports informal learning and confidence‑building in both Welsh and English, using nature as a shared and welcoming starting point.

What we are doing

Through this six-month project, we will deliver a programme of inclusive, co‑designed activities:

  • Walk‑and‑talk sessions, introducing local wildlife and nature spots in Bangor
  • Themed talks (online and in‑person) co‑hosted with community groups, focusing on topics of specific interest to participating communities
  • A Nature Fair, celebrating connection, creativity and community through co‑designed workshops, delivered with support from Fran Wen

In his spare time, he's a keen gardener and runner.

Coming soon! - Bangor Nature Map

We’re developing two new maps to help people explore, connect with, and enjoy the local area.

The printable community map will be a clear, easy-to-use guide to local spaces, routes, and opportunities. It’s designed to be easily shared with community groups, organisations, or anyone new to the area.

The interactive online map will let you explore in more detail, helping you check route accessibility and discover interesting facts about local wildlife, habitats, and natural features.

Coming soon! - Podcasts

The podcast will be a space for open, imaginative conversations with people who care deeply about their communities. Inspired by Bangor’s coastal identity, the podcast reflects the way stories and experiences travel, connect, and find new ground. Through relaxed conversations and gentle prompts, the podcast will explore ideas of leadership, belonging, and caring for places and people, without relying on formal interviews or technical language.

A big thank you to Bangor University for hosting us and providing access to their podcast studio, making it possible to record these conversations in a welcoming and professional environment.
