Great Crested Newt (GCN) Trappers

We’re looking for experienced Great Crested Newt (GCN) trappers to support two licensed mitigation projects in North East Wales. This fixed-term role involves early morning work checking traps and relocating newts, in line with a Natural Resources Wales GCN developmental licence.
This is a fantastic opportunity for ecologists looking for seasonal work in a well-organised field project with a clear conservation impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Check pitfall traps and carpet tiles at designated sites
- Safely handle and relocate GCNs in accordance with licence conditions
- Maintain accurate field records
- Follow strict health, safety, biosecurity and ecological compliance procedures
Requirements:
- Previous experience working on GCN trapping projects – training will also be provided
- Ideally holds a personal GCN licence (Wales or equivalent)
- Ability to commit to 3–5 set mornings per week for the duration of the contract
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and on variable terrain
- Physically fit, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a small team
- Driving licence and own vehicle preferred
- Experience working in a heavy plant site preferred though inductions will be required and provided
