Osprey chicks hatched at Llyn Brenig
It’s been an anxious wait for our osprey enthusiasts at Llyn Brenig, since LJ2 re-claimed his position on the nest alongside the female (372) back in April and new eggs were laid.
Thankfully, what followed was a very settled few weeks, with both birds adjusting to their new routines. Unlike typical breeding pairs, LJ2 did the majority of the incubating and 372 did most of the fishing. All went exactly to plan for our very ‘modern’ osprey pair, and on 2 June our volunteers were thrilled to witness the hatching of the first egg, followed soon after by the hatching of the second egg on 5 June. The chicks are now thriving, with both parent birds bringing in plenty of fish, so now we wait and watch them grow, in anticipation of their long journey to West Africa which, unbelievably, will begin in just a few short months.
Now that there are chicks in the nest and lots of fish being caught, there’s no better time to come to our lookout - to meet our experts and view the nest for yourself through our scopes and binoculars.
