The action continues at Llyn Brenig as our ospreys settle in for the summer breeding season

An action-packed start to the breeding season at Llyn Brenig has seen male ospreys competing for the nest, eggs laid…and eggs ejected!

So far, the 2025 osprey season at Llyn Brenig has centred around three central characters; a female (372) and two males (LJ2 and 416). 372 arrived on 24th March and initially paired-up with 416, laying three eggs by 21st April. However LJ2, the resident male, then mounted a challenge and won control of the nest – ejecting all three of 416’s eggs! 372 then laid another egg with LJ2 on 26th April. As sad as it is to see eggs destroyed in this way, it’s part of the natural breeding behaviour of the males and to have multiple birds competing for our nesting sites in this way is a great indicator of the ever-increasing health of their population in North Wales.

Why not come and marvel at the ospreys for yourself?
Our lookout at Llyn Brenig is now open for you to meet our experts and view the nest through our binoculars and telescopes. You can also get up close and personal with the ospreys at Dwr Cymru’s specially constructed hide that gets you within 150m of the nest! The newly refurbished hide is kitted out with one-way glass, snoods, gimbals and even comfy seats. North Wales Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the ospreys. Groups of up to four can book places in the hide for extended photography sessions on Wednesday's and Friday's or a one-hour public session on weekends.
