Wildlife walks at Minera Quarry

Looking for a wildlife walk near Wrexham? Discover the unique industrial heritage and thriving nature of Minera Quarry. We’ve put together three trails of various lengths and difficulty - including an accessible walk option - that encourage you to explore all that makes this North Wales Wildlife Trust reserve special. Care-Peat: Restoring the carbon storage capacity of peatlands

Peatlands are not only habitats with a highly specialised flora and fauna, they also play an important role in global climate regulation. At Cors y Sarnau Nature Reserve new project officer Richard Cutts is working with international partners to improve our understanding of the processes involved, restore peatland and how our work can contribute to the Widlife Trusts' 30 by 30 campaign.

A low-growing plant of sand dunes, heaths and grassy places, Common centaury is in bloom over summer. Look for clusters of pretty, pink, five-petalled flowers.

The upright, blue flower spikes of Viper's-bugloss can be spotted on chalk grassland, sand dunes, cliffs and banks. Its spotted stem is thought to resemble a viper.

The spiky, silvery leaves of Sea-holly give this plants its common name. Look for its beautiful, thistle-like, blue blooms on coastlines and sand dunes in summer.

The small, yellow flowers and woolly appearance of kidney vetch make this plant easy to spot. Look for it growing low to the ground on sand dunes, chalk grasslands and cliffs in summer.
